Throughout this year, I have kept another list of online discussions centered around the PCA. This list is not scientific. I did not track metrics such as the number of participants, podcast episodes, or articles produced. My internal ‘trend-o-dometer’ was the gauge that I used. It is very subjective. I provide this list for several reasons.

The first is the fleeting nature of trending discussions. Online discussions can be beneficial, but in reality, many of us forget them. We should not get worked up over these discussions. The way that the church changes is not the news cycles of Social media but the outward and ordinary means of grace Christ has blessed his Church. The farmer would never complete his work if he were forever online, scrolling and trolling, rather than doing what he is called to do: tilling the soil in hope of the harvest.

The second reason I hope to provide the list is to show that denominations have disagreements and news. Many of these we need to continue to have charitable, reasoned, gracious, and Biblical discussions about. Online tweets might not be the best place to have these discussions (especially for the un-blue-marked peasants trying to say something careful and complete). Each area can have its purpose. I have found many articles and resources for further reading through a comment. Acknowledging disagreement is not the same as celebrating it. The church has always experienced controversy alongside faithfulness, and carefully recording those moments, without outrage, can actually help us keep them in proper perspective.

The final reason for this list is to have a historical record for my own personal use. Often, these discussions come and go, and knowing what year a discussion took place can be helpful.

None of this should overshadow the many quiet, faithful, and ordinary ways Christ continues to bless His Church — through Word, sacrament, prayer, and shepherding that rarely trends online.
